What is the days until calculator?
Whether you are waiting for a holiday, a wedding, a product launch, an exam or a birthday, it helps to know exactly how long is left. This tool shows the number of days until your chosen date, then keeps a live countdown ticking down to the second while the page is open. It also shows how many full weeks and working days remain, which is handy for planning work or study before a deadline.
Pick a common holiday from the list and the next occurrence is filled in automatically. If this year's date has already passed, the countdown moves on to next year.
How to use it
- Choose a holiday from Count down to, or leave it on “A date I choose”.
- Pick the target date, and optionally a time such as the start of an event.
- Give the countdown a name if you like. It appears in the result and in the copied text.
- Watch the live countdown, and copy the result to share it.
How the days are counted
The day count is the number of calendar days from today to the target date, so tomorrow is “1 day” away regardless of the current time. The live timer counts down to the exact time you entered, in your device's local time zone, so it reaches zero at that moment.
Working days include every Monday to Friday from today up to the day before the target date. Public holidays are not excluded.
Ideas for countdowns
- Days until a holiday, a trip or the end of the school term.
- Working days left before a project deadline or a tax filing date.
- A countdown to a wedding, a due date or a retirement date.
- Days since a past event: pick a date in the past to see how long ago it was.
More worked examples
Christmas: from 24 Oct 2026 there are 62 days until 25 Dec 2026.
Project deadline: pick the due date to see both calendar days and working days left, which is more useful for planning work.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Forgetting time zones. The countdown uses your device's time zone, so an event abroad may start at a different local time.
- Counting today. Tomorrow is shown as 1 day away; adjust if your plan counts both ends.
- Using it for past events. It works, but the date difference calculator gives a fuller breakdown.
